Christmas is still a month away, but some of us have already started looking into ways to make the house feel more festive this year.

To help you achieve that, we’ll share with you a few little tips on how to make that transition from a regular house to Santa’s grotto a little bit easier.

Let’s begin!

1. Be Prepared

Make sure you got everything you need to decorate your home beforehand. And we’re not talking about your Christmas decorations here. You’ve probably have those in your home from last year and have added a few new ones over time. What we’re talking about is getting all the necessary little things you don’t realise you need until you’re putting up your decorations. If you want to avoid making surprise trips to the store every time you need something, here’s a list of some of the things that you might need, so you can buy them ahead of time and be prepared:

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Hooks

  • Tape

  • Metal clips or hooks

  • String

  • Ribbons

2. Deep Clean Your Home

Before you start putting on your Christmas decorations, you’re going to have to clean your house a bit more thoroughly.

Clean all the rooms that you’re going to decorate, clean the surfaces, do the floors, and make sure everything is ready for you to start decorating.

If you skip the deep clean now, you’re going to have to do it before Christmas, when all of your decorations will already be out and in the way of your cleaning.

3. Take Down Other Decorations

If you have fall decorations or other items that aren’t Christmas related, you should take them down and store them either after you do your deep clean or before that, so they don’t interfere with your Christmas décor or style.

4. Get Out Your Christmas Decorations

Now comes the fun part! Take all of your Christmas decorations and put them all in one place, so you can see what you’re working with.

Look through everything and decide what your theme is going to be this year. Once you do that repack and store anything that doesn’t match your theme.

Putting all your decorations in one place, gives you a better perspective of what you already have, and what you might need to buy to realise your desired theme for this year.

5. Donate What You’re Not Using

If you find that you have some items that you’re not using, you should consider donating them so that someone else can give them a home, while you declutter your home in the process.

6. Start Putting Up Your Decorations

If you think you need a few more items such as an extra garland or a few more ornaments for your tree, the best advice that we can give you is to be patient and wait until you’ve used all the decorations you were planning on using and then decide if you still need to buy more.

You might get surprised by how much stuff you have and decide not to buy any more, or you might realise how little you have, and in that case, you can run off to the store to get a few more items that will bring your whole Christmas theme together.

7. Bring The Real Christmas Scents

If you’re using an artificial tree and you want to bring that Christmas smell and atmosphere in your home, you can do so by using Christmas tree scent sticks and hang them on your tree or burn a few candles that are Christmas tree scented. Another way to bring in something Christmassy in your home is to bake fresh cookies. Nothing gives away more of a holiday feel than the smell of vanilla throughout the whole house. You can use this occasion to engage the entire family by asking them to help out, design their own cookies and have fun.

8. Design Your Own Christmas Cards

Another fun activity that you can all do as a family is to design personalised and customised Christmas cards for your friends and family. Not only is this option cheaper, but it also has that personal touch that everyone will enjoy much more than a store-bought card. Giving away personalised cards is a great way to bring the Christmas spirit and bring a little bit of joy in everyone’s life.

9. Organise a Secret Santa

Another way to bring the Christmas spirit in a very cost-effective approach is to organise a Secret Santa with your closest friends and family, or even with your co-workers. That way, you’ll have fun getting to know people better and figuring out what kind of gift to buy. This gives you the chance to interact more with new people and become closer to them.

10. Get The Lights And Then Get Some More

The lights are the most significant part of every Christmas story. They can bring the Christmas spirit to your home like nothing else can. You can use them to get your house and your neighbourhood into the Christmas spirit and make the holiday even more bright and shiny.
